Advanced surgical care
Our multidisciplinary team of surgeons is made up of accomplished professionals serving the Greater Richmond Region. Together, they work to create an individualized care plan for each patient and offer a variety of advanced surgical procedures to promote healing.
General surgery
General surgery is a specialized field of surgery which includes a wide range of procedures involving the neck, chest, abdomen and extremities.
Some of the most common procedures involve:
- Appendix removal
- Gallbladder and biliary tract surgery
- Gastrointestinal surgery, including the stomach, small bowel and pancreas
- Hemorrhoid surgery
- Hernia surgery
- Ileostomy
- Liver biopsy and surgery
- Thyroid surgery
- Tumor removal
- Ulcer treatment
Breast surgery
Breast surgery can be used for a variety of reasons. However, it is most often used to remove a tumor from the breast due to breast cancer. Additionally breast surgery can be used to either preserve or reconstruct the breast after breast cancer surgery.
Colorectal surgery
Colorectal surgery focuses on correcting issues of the large bowel, also referred to as the large intestine. Some of the most common procedures include:
- Colectomy—removal of all or part of the colon
- Colostomy —a piece of the colon is redirected to an opening in the abdomen to bypass damaged colon

Oncologic surgery
Surgery is another effective method of cancer treatment that is used to remove tumors and other affected areas. Surgery may be recommended initially to remove a tumor, or after additional therapies that have had an opportunity to shrink the tumor.
Vascular surgery
Vascular surgery is used to treat conditions of the vascular system, including the arteries and veins. Vascular surgery is often required when vascular disease can no longer be treated by noninvasive methods, such as medication management or lifestyle changes.
Robot-assisted surgery
When possible, we use robot-assisted surgical methods that offer many benefits to patients. During robotic surgery, the doctor controls robotic arms from a console a few feet away from the operating table.
This advanced technology provides the surgeon with increased precision and accuracy during the surgery and allows for:
- A shorter hospital stay
- Faster return to normal daily activities
- Fewer complications
- Less pain and scarring
- Reduced blood loss
- Reduced risk of infection
When should you start breast cancer screenings?
The answer may vary. Use our online assessment to gain insight and determine breast cancer health risk factors.
